Has Yatan Bueno Been Suspended?
Yatan Bueno was the first to announce his failed USADA test. USADA has yet to release a statement on Bueno’s failure or the possible suspension.
It’s unclear how long the IBJJF 2024 champion will be suspended as USADA is still investigating the situation.
What Drug Was Found?
The drug test conducted by USADA showed traces of deca-durabolin or nandrolone as it’s commonly known. It’s a steroid widely used to treat anemia, osteoporosis, and other conditions.
Nandrolone is commonly used in athletics since it’s synthetic testosterone, which will help build muscle.
This drug is also used to alleviate joint pain, but the relief is temporary and doesn’t treat underlying damage.
Bueno’s Claim for the Positive Test
It’s relatively uncommon for an athlete to come out and admit they used a substance before USADA publicly announces a positive test. However, Yatan Bueno came forward and gave a reason why he tested positive.
In a video released by Yatan on Instagram, he explained the reason why he had nandrolone in his system. Bueno said at the 2024 Pan Championship, he severely dislocated his shoulder.
He claims he’s been plagued by chronic shoulder problems from a young age. Then, with the World Cup fast approaching, he tried various forms of therapy to heal quicker and relieve pain.
In a desperate and risky move, Bueno opted to use steroid injections called “Deca Application” to manage the pain.
However, Yatan knew that using this treatment involved a risk, and he was proven right. Now, Yatan will be facing a suspension for an unknown amount of time.
Hopefully, he can get his shoulder repaired during this time off and get back on the mats soon.
