Per a recent KSW press release, the first handful of fights have been announced for KSW 97, which will take place on August 24, 2024. Currently, the main event is set to showcase the #2 heavyweight contender Szymon Bajor (25-10) battling the #9 ranked heavyweight in Matheus Scheffel (17-11.) The co-main event of the night will highlight the light heavyweight division as #2 ranked light heavyweight contender Damian Piwowarczyk (8-3) battles Maciej Rózanski (14-5.) The event will be available worldwide on KSWTV. Live results can also be seen here on MYMMANEWS.
Szymon Bajor vs. Matheus Scheffel (Main Event)Â
Rebounding with a victory in his last KSW appearance after a loss in a title opportunity, Szymon Bajor will headline KSW 97 in hopes of regaining another opportunity to face Phil de Fries. Bajor was victorious at KSW 89, earning the split decision in a close contest against Viktor Pesta. A finisher inside any cage he competes, 20 of his 25 career wins have come by a finish, 10 by KO/TKO and 10 by submission. Bajor is a veteran of KSW all the way back to KSW 28 where he was victorious via first-round knockout. A fighter with a wealth of experience, Bajor is no stranger to competing on the big stages or fighting anywhere in the world.
Hoping to rebound from his KSW debut loss at KSW Epic, Scheffel brings experience to the cage as well with this being his 29th professional bout. A knockout artist as well, 12 of his career 17 victories have come by KO/TKO. A former Contender Series and PFL participant, made it to the finals of the 2022 PFL Championships. A victory for Scheffel over the #2 contender could shoot him up the heavyweight rankings and have him within a few matchups of meeting the unstoppable Phil de Fries for a title shot. The bout looks to bring heavy hands and a potential knockout of the night.
Damian Piwowarczyk vs. Maciej Rozanski (Co-Main Event)
The very dangerous Piwowarczyk will look to secure a future title shot as the #2 ranked contender will seek his four bonuses as he faces Rozanski in the night’s co-main event. The knockout of the night winner at KSW Epic, Piwowarczyk competed twice that night in a four-man light heavyweight vacant title match.
Though making it to the finals, he was unable to secure the gold. 5-3 in KSW, Piwowarczyk has proven how dangerous he can be with two knockout of the night awards along with as a submission of the night. Throughout his MMA career, seven of his eight victories have come by a finish. Another finish at KSW 97 could put him right in the thick of a title shot next.
The former Bellator and ACA star Rozanski will enter the KSW cage for the first time to mark his 20th career professional bout. Prior to entering KSW, Rozanski has tallied 14 victories with 11 of those by a finish, nine by submission. A fighter who has fought across the globe, competing in KSW could very well mark the highlight of his career if he can score the victory over the #2 ranked light heavyweight.
With his opponent such a dangerous knockout artist, Rozanski will try to get this one on the mat. He has to be careful though because Piwowarczyk has earned a submission of the night in the KSW cage before. With Rozanski’s wealth of experience around the world, this matchup could easily give us our fight of the night.
