Demetrious Johnson Talks Possibility Of Competing At CJI 2: “I Know My Skill Level”
Demetrious Johnson recently addressed the possibility of competing at CJI 2, but his response may not be what fans were hoping for.
Given that Johnson has committed to competing in Jiu-Jitsu post-MMA retirement, speculation has been growing about whether he might take part in CJI 2.However, when asked about the idea, Johnson didn’t hesitate to clarify his stance:
As a spectator, absolutely! As for competing, no.I only train two or three times a week, and I’m more predominantly in the gi.
No gi is kind of not my thing, even if I come from a no gi background.
Johnson has been active in the Jiu-Jitsu scene but primarily in gi competitions, often competing in the masters divisions.
That’s a far cry from the level of elite no-gi specialists preparing for CJI 2, something Johnson himself acknowledged after visiting B-Team Jiu-Jitsu for a training session:
These guys are the cream of the crop. They train every single day.All they do is no gi grappling, so I know my skill level.
Despite Johnson’s reluctance, CJI organizer Seth Belisle remains optimistic about getting him involved in some capacity:
Hopefully we can get him a super-fight. I was thinking him and Gabi (Garcia) in the gi.We’d kill it but we’ll see, I don’t know.
He’s on the fence but he’ll be in attendance hopefully.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
