Dillon Danis Talks Gordon Ryan Rematch: “100%, If They Pay”
Dillon Danis recently addressed the possibility of a rematch with Gordon Ryan.
And, despite being inactive in grappling competitions since 2017, Danis acknowledged that if the financial offer was right, he would be willing to step back onto the mats against his longtime rival.
His last Jiu-Jitsu appearance was at ADCC 2017, where he and Ryan faced off in the opening round of the under 88kg division.Although Danis pushed Ryan in one of his toughest matches of the event, he ultimately lost by decision.
Since then, their rivalry has continued largely through social media, with frequent verbal jabs exchanged over the years. Now that Danis is looking to return to competition, Ariel Helwani asked him about the prospect of facing Ryan again:
Yeah 100%, if they pay. We’ve gotten big money but that would have to be a big money one.
With Craig Jones Invitational 2 currently assembling its lineup of superfights, the idea of this rematch taking place there was out there.Craig Jones had previously approached Danis for the first edition of the event, though a deal never materialized.
Beyond CJI, other promotions could potentially put the matchup together…But Danis revealed that his relationship with at least one major organization has soured:
When I go to the UFC events they got these Jiu-Jitsu guys on the screen like and stuff like that…And, like, they made me pay for tickets when I’m the one that brought Jiu-Jitsu up when no one was talking sh*t.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
