Victor Hugo has officially been announced as B-Team Jiu-Jitsu’s wildcard pick for the upcoming Craig Jones Invitational 2 (CJI 2).
Considered one of the best grapplers in the world at over 99kg, Hugo not only boosts B-Team’s roster but adds serious star power and high-level talent to the entire event.
His return to CJI comes with some unfinished business.
In the first edition of the tournament, Hugo entered as a heavy favorite in the over 80kg division but was submitted in the opening round by Lucas Kanard in what became the biggest upset of the year. With both athletes confirmed for CJI 2 – Kanard now representing Team Misfits Australasia at under 88kg – a rematch remains a real possibility if their teams meet during the event.
Another potential storyline is Hugo’s most recent loss at WNO 27, where he dropped a decision to Luke Griffith.Griffith will be part of Team New Wave at CJI 2, setting up a second possible chance for Hugo to avenge a recent defeat.
Perhaps the most intriguing development, though, is Hugo’s surprising new alliance with longtime rival Nicky Rodriguez.
The two have faced off multiple times over the years, with Hugo maintaining a perfect record – including a submission win at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 10.Now, instead of competing against each other, they’ll join forces to anchor B-Team’s heavyweight lineup.
On paper, that makes them one of the most dangerous heavyweight duos in the entire tournament.
