How to Reverse the Twister Hook

How to Reverse the Twister Hook

The twister hook is one of the main mechanisms used to take the back, especially in no gi grappling, where it is quite common.

(So if you do no gi you should probably practice it because at some point it WILL be used against you.)

Fundamentally, the twister hook is a method of entangling one of your opponent’s legs with two of your own in a double triangle configuration.  Once fully locked on it’s a difficult position to escape from.

The interesting thing is that the twister hook is almost a symmetrical position, meaning that there are ways to reverse it and put your opponent in jeopardy if you move quickly and early!

Here’s the video from my Rolling Backtakes for Everyone project that covers the twister hook reversal in detail!

To summarise, if your opponent has you in a twister hook, do these three things quickly…

Straighten your trapped leg
Push his knee, and
Pull his hip

Pull this off and – oh my – how the turntables will have been turned. Now YOU’LL be in the dominant position and he’ll be the one in danger of getting leglocked or having his back taken.

Easiest Rolling Backtake

Rolling backtakes are all the rage right now, but they may seem out of reach for the average jiu-jitsu athlete.

But there’s a simple 3 step process that almost everyone can use to learn to magically teleport onto your opponent’s back.

Click here for a beginner-friendly breakdown of the easiest rolling backtake!

The Twister Submission

The twister hook is a method of controlling one of the legs of your opponent, and this leads to a unique spine-twisting submission called the twister that shows up now and again in sport BJJ and MMA.

Rolling Backtakes for Everyone

Rolling backtakes give you the ability to have a highlight reel finish from anywhere. But they’re a lot easier to do than most people think.

In my in-depth Rolling Backtakes for Everyone instructional you’ll learn exactly how to take your opponent’s back from everywhere using our simple to learn, easy to do rolling backtakes system.

These techniques look spectacular, but with the right methodology, doing them is as simple as a shoulder roll.  If you can do the basic jiu-jitsu warmup, then I guarantee that you can hit this move!

Click here to check it out and prove to yourself that highlight reel moves are within your grasp.
