John Danaher Explains Why You Should Keep Calm Before A Match (& Not Try To Hype Yourself Up)

How do you usually behave before stepping on the competition mats? Are you aiming for a calm state of mind…Or are you trying to hype yourself up?

Well, John Danaher believes you should aim for a peaceful state of mind. Here is what he had to say about the topic in a recent social media post:

From the earliest days I’ve always preferred to see a sense of calm professionalism before a match among my athletes. You don’t freak out and get emotional every day in the gym when doing Jiu jitsu – so why do it before a match?

Sure, everybody has their own way of taking care of themselves before a match. However…

I respect that everyone has their own way of getting ready – the most important is to use what works for you

If in doubt, try to capture the same sense of relaxed calm you exhibit every day in the gym.

Think in terms of make it more like every day actions rather than someone totally exceptional and different.Give it a try next time you’re getting ready.
