LAS VEGAS — One of boxing’s greatest technicians and most decorated champions, Vasiliy Lomachenko, has officially announced his retirement from professional boxing. The Ukrainian superstar leaves behind a legacy that reshaped the modern era of the sport, earning world titles in three weight divisions and establishing himself as one of the finest pound-for-pound fighters of his generation.
Top Rank, which promoted Lomachenko throughout his professional journey, celebrated the remarkable achievements of the fighter known simply as “Loma.” His accomplishments include tying the record for the fewest professional fights needed to win a world title, capturing his first belt in just his third bout. He would go on to become a three-division world champion in only 12 fights, setting a new standard for greatness in the modern era.
Before his sensational pro career, Lomachenko built an almost mythical reputation as an amateur, compiling an astonishing record of 396 wins with just 1 loss. He claimed two Olympic gold medals and two World Championship titles for his native Ukraine, further solidifying his status as one of the most accomplished amateurs in history.
In 2022, Lomachenko made headlines for reasons far beyond the boxing ring. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he paused his boxing career to return home and join a territorial defense battalion in defense of his country—demonstrating not only championship skill, but championship character.
Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum reflected on Lomachenko’s retirement with deep respect:“It’s been an honor for all of us at Top Rank to promote the pro boxing career of Vasiliy Lomachenko. He was a generational champion, and we will all miss his participation in the sport.”
Though he steps away from the ring, Lomachenko’s legacy endures as a trailblazer, a warrior, and one of the sport’s most respected icons.
