Craig Jones recently openly criticized Joe Rogan for what he perceives as hypocrisy in Rogan’s stance on athlete compensation.
Jones highlighted Rogan’s recent critique of the Olympics, where athletes receive minimal compensation despite the enormous profits generated by the event
Yet, he supports ADCC, which Jones argues follows a similar model:
Rogan just posted about the Olympics and how the athletes don’t get paid, but then he supports the ADCC, which is essentially doing the same thing.
We’re just trying to get the athletes paid more, and somehow that’s a problem.
Jones elaborated that while ADCC pays its winners around $10,000, the event organizers and sponsors pocket the majority of the revenue:
These guys are making millions off the ADCC, and the athletes are getting, what, $10,000 to win the whole thing? It’s the same exploitative model as the Olympics, but Rogan is cool with it when it’s his pet project.
He believes that the current system is deeply flawed and requires significant change:
At the end of the day, we’re the ones putting our bodies on the line and entertaining the fans.We deserve to be paid accordingly, and that’s what we’re trying to do with this new tournament.
