Perfection is hard to reach and maintain in the world of mixed martial arts. Archie Colgan is making it look easy though in the Bellator world. Currently 10-0 in his professional career, seven of his career 10 wins have come under the Bellator banner, making him one of the hottest rising stars in the organization.
Rise in Combat Sports
A Colorado state wrestling champion, Colgan went on to participate wrestling on the collegiate level at Wyoming. During his tenure, Colgan would earn a fifth-place finish in the Big 12 Championships along with learning an At-Large bid for the National Championships. Wrestling was a strong foundation for Colgan to transition into MMA.
“I transitioned to MMA when I was 24 years old after completing my college wrestling career. I have been full go ever since,” Colgan told MYMMANEWS. Colgan has had a host of great coaches to help him not only develop as a world-class wrestler, but also mixed martial artist. “There are a lot of coaches and people who deserve credit in my development as a fighter, but Justin Salas is at the top of that list. Peter Straub, Trevor Wittman, Ben Cherrington, among others,” started Colgan.
Perfect Run
Only three years into his professional MMA career, Colgan finds himself in the driver’s seat for a potential championship opportunity. Making his debut in March 2021, Colgan earned a third-round TKO victory at LFA 102. After a second LFA victory, Colgan would make the move over to Bellator, where he has won eight-straight since.
A dominating and controlling fighter, six of his 10 wins have come by a finish, five of those by KO/TKO. With four decision wins, Colgan has also proved he can go the distance and control the pace of the matchup. In his last bout, Colgan went the distance with French veteran Thibault Gouti in May 2024.
A victory over Manoel Sousa on September 14, 2024, would not only make Colgan a perfect 11-0, but could put him squarely in title talks. “I think after this win I am in for #1 contender and then I will become Champion!” So what can fans expect when Colgan enters the Bellator cage in search of his 11-0 career start? “An exciting, composed, explosive athlete ready for the job,” started Colgan.
