Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is out of his scheduled UFC 307 bout against undefeated Movsar Evloev due to injury. Sterling revealed the news on Wednesday on his YouTube channel.
“Unfortunately, I have to break the news, I will not be competing in Salt Lake City at UFC 307,” Sterling said. “In sparring, I had an injury – not requiring surgery, but I was advised by the UFC medical staff that I will not be able to properly compete in this short of a turnaround.”
Included in the video announcing the injury was footage of when it happened.
“I did the stem cells. I took time off. I tried to rehab it as much as I can as best as I can with the PI team here and unfortunately it’s out of my hands now,” Sterling said.
Sterling apologized to Evloev and his team and encouraged the Russia to wait for the matchup to be rebooked.
“I will be back soon. Possibly do this in December,” Sterling said. “That’s pretty much all I’ve got. So, Movsar, if you really want to get it in let’s wait until December. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do about this, bro.”
“This sucks. I was so close. Three weeks out,” Sterling continued. “It is what it is. See you guys hopefully sooner than later.”
