In a series of emotionally charged social media updates, Bird Wiltse shared details about the arrest of his brother, Jiu-Jitsu competitor Andrew Wiltse. According to Bird’s statements, Andrew, who has reportedly been experiencing a severe mental health crisis for the past two and a half months, was taken into custody on Drummond Island, Michigan, where the Wiltse family resides.
Bird expressed concern and apologized to the local community for any distress caused during Andrew’s recent struggles. In a post shared on Instagram, Bird detailed the situation, stating that Andrew’s arrest may involve either a psychiatric evaluation, a prison sentence, or potentially both. Bird speculated that the arrest could be due to a “psych evaluation with a massive amount of evidence” but mentioned that Andrew might also have outstanding warrants.
“I believe it’s for a psych evaluation… but allegedly he had some warrants too,” Bird noted, adding that they were awaiting confirmation regarding the exact details from authorities. This arrest marks a tumultuous chapter in Andrew’s recent public and private life, during which his erratic behavior drew considerable attention within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community and beyond.
Andrew Wiltse has been banned from the majority of his social media platforms, with YouTube reportedly being the last platform he has access to. The deplatforming and arrest follow a series of inflammatory accusations and threats made by Andrew online. His statements targeted prominent figures in the BJJ community, including Gordon Ryan, Nathalie Santoro, and Craig Jones.
The situation escalated as Wiltse publicly accused Gordon Ryan of heinous acts involving his younger brother, Nicky Ryan, and leveled allegations against Craig Jones for allegedly concealing evidence. Screenshots from Wiltse’s social media stories further illustrate the gravity of his claims and his subsequent threats.
In one alarming outburst, Wiltse threatened Gordon Ryan directly, stating, “If I see Gordon Ryan, I’m gonna stab him to deah. You understand? I think he is that bad in person – I’ll personally murer him on sight!”
Bird’s social media posts also included updates regarding the Wiltse family’s dogs, which were impacted by Andrew’s arrest. Luna, one of the dogs, escaped into the woods during the arrest, while other pets, Tom, Riddle, and Hermione, are currently being cared for by their father, who is in the process of moving to an apartment that does not allow animals. Bird expressed hope that the dogs would find new homes and noted that despite Andrew’s alleged behavior, they are “good dogs and deserve happy family’s [sic].”
The situation involving Andrew Wiltse underscores the intersection of mental health challenges, public scrutiny, and the complexities of managing personal crises in the digital age. While further developments are awaited, it is hoped that proper care and support can be provided to all involved.
