Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad captured the 170-pound title at UFC 304, defeating then-titleholder Leon Edwards via unanimous decision.  While he awaits his next opponent, “Remember the Name” has been doing interviews, weighing in on potential matchups, and making fight predictions.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Muhammad was asked about the anticipated middleweight championship rematch between Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland.

“I don’t think he’s (Strickland) going to be touching gold anymore. The dude sucks,” Muhammad said.  “I think DDP beats him.  I think that – Sean’s one of those guys that I think when you fight him once you figure out his style.  He’s awkward.  He’s weird with his style.”

“I think Sean has this aura about him that people think he’s crazy because he talks crazy and says he’s going to go to war and this and that,” Muhammad continued.  “Then he goes in there and just throws 100 teep kicks at you, and he jabs, and he moves away.  It’s not the war that you think it’s going to be.  I think now that you’ve fought him once that you realize that, so now you start picking that up on him.  I think DDP could end up freakin breaking him in this fight.”

Du Plessis narrowly defeated Strickland via split decision at UFC 297 to win the middleweight championship.  Strickland believes he won the fight and has been calling for a rematch since the scorecards were read inside Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in January.

Du Plessis successfully defended the title at UFC 305, finishing former two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya via submission in the fourth round.  Strickland rebounded from the loss to du Plessis in his last fight, defeating Paulo Costa via split decision at UFC 302 in June.
