BJJ Instructor Stabbed In His Academy By Former Student

3rd degree BJJ black belt, Scott Savage was stabbed in his own academy by a student this past Monday. Savage, the owner of “Savage Brazilian Jiu Jitsu” is currently in the hospital in stable condition.

This news was first shared on Reddit’s r/bjj thread by user zspitfire06. An alleged student of Savage named Reginald Scott Grimes Jr. attacked him with a knife. Stabbing him multiple times in the neck and torso during his evening class on Monday night.

Students ran to apprehend Grimes, but law enforcement would arrest him shortly after the incident. There has currently been no motive given for the attack or if the former student suffers from mental illness.

Scott is said to be in stable condition at the hospital after the attack, but his future teaching BJJ is unclear.

A BJJ academy is a sanctuary for many of us and is a place we go to destress and train with friends. This is horrible news, but thankfully Scott survived and is going to recover.
