Read the details of this BJJ purple belt‘s bravery and heroism.
BJJ Purple Belt Saves Woman From Attacker
While driving home, BJJ purple belt Andy Murray witnessed a woman being attacked by a mugger. The Irish grappler quickly stopped his car and sprang into action.
Murray quickly tackled the attacker, subdued him, and called for help. The BJJ student from SBG Ireland recorded and detailed the incident in an Instagram post.
“There is always time for open mat. Jokes aside though, as I drove into the car park, something felt wrong. My instincts kicked in, and I quickly put on my shoes, ready for whatever might come next. Without a second thought, I sprinted toward them, my focus only on stopping this guy in his tracks. With a surge of adrenaline, I intervened, pulling him away and holding him down,”- Andy Murray.
After posting the recording of the incident, Murray’s video has received millions of views and numerous congratulations for his bravery.
Why Did He Record Before Intervening?
While many gave Andy props for saving this woman, a few had one criticism of his actions. Why did he start recording before he intervened?
Murray explained why he made this decision: “For my protection, I knew what I was going to do. And I knew he would be safe. So I had to keep my record of it for my safety. Plus, you can see he is attacking her at the start.”
Also, if you haven’t been following the news in Ireland, the Irish government has been cracking down on hate crimes. Since the attacker was a minority, Murray made the correct move by recording himself stopping the attack.
This way, the authorities would see the whole incident, and Andy wouldn’t get hit with an absurd hate crime charge.
Good Job, Andy Murray!
Props to Andy Murray for his bravery and for saving that woman. Hopefully, this act of heroism will encourage others to take up BJJ or another form of self-defense.
