Claressa Shields Keeps It Real On Marriage

Boxing champion Claressa Shields isn’t one to pull punches, inside or outside the ring. The boxing superstar, who has collected world titles like some folks collect sneakers, isn’t interested in squabbling over men or chasing social media clout. Instead, Shields is flipping the script on what it means to be “wife material,” serving up her own brand of real talk about marriage, relationships, and why she’d rather build a legacy than beef over a boyfriend.

Claressa Shields Talks Relationships

In a recent interview with Sway, Shields laid out her philosophy on marriage, making it clear that for her, being “wife material” isn’t about the glitz of a big wedding or chasing after the latest designer bag. Instead, she says, it’s about showing up for your partner and building a family, even if that means rolling up your sleeves for some old-fashioned cooking and cleaning.

Claress Shields, who has built her career on discipline and grit, sees a disconnect in today’s dating scene.“You get with whoever the hottest, you get the money, you get the bags, the purses, and you don’t really hear too much about marriage,” she says. For Shields, the real flex is commitment, actually wanting to be a wife and do the work that comes with it. She admits she’s “nicer to him than I’m nervous,” a rare confession from someone who’s not exactly known for being timid.

But don’t get it twisted, Claressa Shields is quick to remind everyone that her kindness has its limits. “Now, inside the ring, I wouldn’t tell nobody to get in there with me, including him,” she laughs. It’s a line that sums up her approach: soft at home, steel in the ring.

As for her own search for a husband, Claressa Shields isn’t in a rush to settle for just anyone. She’s looking for someone who values the same things she does: loyalty, hard work, and a willingness to stick it out when things get tough. It’s a tall order, but if anyone can handle a challenge, it’s the woman who’s already made boxing history.

Claressa Shields’ next bout is officially set: she will face Lani Daniels on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The fight is scheduled to take place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, United States, and will be broadcast on DAZN in both the US and the UK. Shields remains undefeated at 16-0, coming off her historic win over Danielle Perkins. This upcoming fight marks her return to the ring as she continues to build her already legendary boxing career.

With an upcoming bout on the horizon, Shields is focused on her training, but she hasn’t lost sight of what matters outside the ring. Whether she’s throwing jabs or making dinner, she’s keeping it real, and reminding everyone that sometimes, the real prize isn’t the wedding, but the life you build after the confetti falls.
