As he looks to return to boxing, Deontay Wilder revealed that a fight with Francis Ngannou is still in the works.
After suffering his fourth defeat in his last five outings, many feared that ‘The Bronze Bomber’s time in the sport had come to an unfortunate end. But now, 10 months after his most recent appearance in the ring, the 39-year-old has announced a comeback.
On June 27, Deontay Wilder will be welcomed back to the sport by Tyrrell Herndon. Many expect Wilder to blaze through journeyman Herndon, who boasts a record of 24-5 and rides a three-fight win streak.
Despite having an opponent in front of him, Wilder is still looking ahead to potential fights against higher-level athletes. One name that continues to be linked with the Alabama native is former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
“I don’t know how much I can say, but I’m going to say on this part, me and Francis, that fight’s always been, it still comes up,” Wilder said.
“It came up two more times, you know what I mean, not too long ago to be exact… We’re just trying to figure out how they want the segment to go with me and Ngannou.”
“I’m definitely interested. He is, as well. I guess it’s just a matter of a time. Time is always the matter of all things, and then when you execute that, you get a place and a date and you get things and then you start the promoting and then things get popping.”

“I think that’s something that’s going to be created. Something that’s looking to be done. I mean, [it’s] just getting everything together and all the details and stuff like that.”
“People can look forward to that. I’m looking forward to that one. So, stay tuned.”
