Drew Dober is handling his latest loss to Manuel Torres pretty well despite the controversy surrounding it.
Dober got steamrolled by Torres in the first round at UFC Mexico City last night (Sat., March 29, 2025), not even making it to the second minute mark before getting hit with a blistering one-two combination that dropped him. The American grabbed for a leg, but got stuck in the position with Torres unleashing a torrent of hammer fists that seemed to go on forever (watch the finish here).
The Internet collectively lost its mind on how late the stoppage was from the in-cage referee. For his part, Dober got up on wobbly legs and squared up like he thought the fight was still going.
It was not a great way to go out (again), but he was pretty pragmatic about the defeat on X (formerly Twitter) the morning after.
“Well, that sucked,” he tweeted. “A beautifully timed one two by Manuel Torres. There’s not much to go off of other than, unfortunately, stepping in front of the rear hand of a long power puncher.
“As much as I love Mexico City, it’s given me two of my most embarrassing losses of my career, haha,” Dober added. “But the food and people are still the best. I’m happy and healthy and excited to be a stay at home dad for awhile.”
This is Dober’s third loss in a row and fourth in five fights.
Three of those four losses have been stoppages, and they just seem to keep getting uglier. It’s safe to conclude that 24 fights into his UFC career, the all-action Lightweight firecracker just can’t walk through the damage he could in the past.
And taking a break is a great idea; however, the eight months between his blood-soaked loss to Jean Silva and now didn’t result in Dober 2.0 as hoped.
His sense of humor, though? It’s just fine. When a fan on social media complained that Dober’s parlay-busting loss cost him his child support money, Drew fired back.
“I lost more money than you did,” he replied. “Wear a condom.”
