Ramazan Makhachev, the father of UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, recently revealed that his son’s mother has never watched any of his fights live.
Ramazan explained that Islam’s mother goes to great lengths to avoid watching her son fight:
His mother never does [watch the fights].
She even leaves the house during his fights, whether it’s night or day.She is away for an hour or two.
This surprising fact came to light during an interview at the airport, where Islam received a hero’s welcome upon returning to his hometown of Makhachkala, Russia, following his historic title defense.
Which is exactly what gives Islam even more motivation to keep dominating the octagon:
I’m very grateful that you all came here to show your support, despite it being so early in the morning. This gives us motivation to move on and train even more, knowing that so many people care; don’t sleep at night and root for us when we fight.
This is what gets us up early in the morning to go to the gym and keep doing this job.Thank you all for your support!
