Jay Rodriguez Promises To Never Use PEDs While Competing In Jiu-Jitsu
Jay Rodriguez has recently revealed his commitment to competing as a natural athlete – by stating that he won’t consider using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) until after he retires from BJJ competition.
The topic of PEDs is nothing new in BJJ, and even Rodriguez’s older brother, Nicky Rodriguez, has faced accusations of PED use in the past. However, Nicky voluntarily took a test and cleared it.
When asked directly about his stance on PEDs, Jay Rodriguez made his position clear:
I’ll never use while I’m competing.I don’t know about after competition, but never during competition.
Like his older brother, Jay transitioned to no-gi grappling after spending his early years wrestling. The Rodriguez brothers’ paths in grappling have been strikingly similar, with Jay receiving his blue belt in rapid fashion, much like Nicky.
After only about seven months of training, Jay earned his blue belt and soon after, he won the ADCC Trials.
In the years since, Jay has solidified his reputation as one of the most exciting young athletes in no-gi grappling, picking up numerous impressive wins along the way.
He has recently been promoted to the rank of a BJJ brown belt, by Nicky:
