John Danaher On Having Patience When Winning: “Slow Things Down”

Finally got to that winning position and ready to go on the offensive? Super excited about it, right? Well, John Danaher believes you should take a breather – and slow things down.

Danaher explained how patience plays a huge role in taking the win, instead of losing position due to impatience:

One of the hardest things to learn is PATIENCE WHEN YOU’RE WINNING.

Typically we feel a need to speed things up when we’re on a path to victory. It’s natural to feel that way.We think that the longer the time period between where we are now and execution of a winning move, the more opportunity for an opponent to escape.

In fact you’re generally better off (time permitting) slowing things down a little getting the pre-requisites in order first. This games generally rewards preliminary control over speed of execution.

That is to say, Danaher emphasizes slowing down:

So, next time you’re getting into a potential finishing position, slow things down a little rather than speed them up and take note of your finishing percentages.
