As he approaches what many expect to be his retirement fight, Jon Jones has been in the lab, potentially cooking up one final storm for the fans.
Excluding his problems outside of the cage, ‘Bones’ arguably has the best career in MMA history. Not only did he become one of the greatest of all time with his accolades under the UFC banner, but he also did so by beating Hall-of-Fame level talent from top to bottom.
Now, in anticipation for his UFC 309 headliner against Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones has been working to improve his wrestling.
To do so, Jones invited Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson into his camp. As the two began tussling for position during a grappling exchange, the UFC heavyweight champion was forced to pull back a flying knee attempt that was right on the button.
If Jones had followed through with the shot, Steveson could have been nursing a sizable wound or maybe much worse.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to the physical side of combat sports, having been a lifelong freestyle wrestler before making a brief move over to the WWE.
Despite his expertise in the grappling, Gable Steveson would have been in big trouble had Jones not held back the flying knee. Though, the pair saw the funny side of it soon after.

If all goes to plan, Jon Jones will be making his 24th walk to the octagon on November 16.
While the clash between Jones and Miocic will undoubtedly be a fun one, many fans are disappointed that the champion isn’t interested in the Tom Aspinall fight.
Aspinall has been on a tear through the division, managing to capture interim gold and has been consistent in his pursuit for a shot at the throne.
Though all signs point to Jon Jones retiring after UFC 309, Dana White insisted the UFC will do whatever it takes to make that fight happen.
