Since Kron Gracie’s poor performance at UFC 310, the MMA and Jiu-Jitsu world has been full of drama. Everyone from fat YouTube trolls to ex-fighters/ex-comedians is questioning the effectiveness of Jiu-Jitsu.
Let me put my two cents in on the matter and go over Kron Gracie’s terrible performance at UFC 310.
Does Kron’s Performance Show BJJ’s Lack of Effectiveness?
Despite what MMA gurus who breathe heavily while walking upstairs might say, Kron’s performance doesn’t reflect BJJ’s effectiveness. What it does reflect was a dreadful game plan from a delusional fighter with an inflated ego.
From Kron Gracie’s performance, it is clear that he doesn’t have a good coach in his corner. No top coach would ever advise their fighter to pull guard and defend for over two rounds.
Especially when facing a fighter like Bryce Mitchell, who is also a highly skilled black belt with great submission skills. That game plan was never going to work on Mitchell or any fighter with high-level grappling.
The Main Argument Against BJJ Detractors: Charles Oliveira
For the detractors questioning the effectiveness of Jiu-Jitsu, I have two words for you: Charles Oliveira.
Charles Oliveira is one of the most exciting and decorated fighters in the UFC and what is his base? Jiu-Jitsu.
The former lightweight champion holds the records for submission wins and stoppages. Oliveira has submitted numerous top fighters and former champions during his successful fighting career.
You never hear one person question the effectiveness of Jiu-Jitsu when Do Bronx is in the cage. A bad performance by one fighter does not signify that Jiu-Jitsu lacks effectiveness.
Not Evolving with the Times
What Kron Gracie’s performance at UFC 310 really shows is members of a pioneering martial arts family not evolving with the times. There are certain members of the Gracie family(and I stress not all of them) who refuse to evolve.
They think that they can get by in MMA being a one-dimensional fighter and this just isn’t possible anymore. It’s not even possible in sport Jiu-Jitsu to be a one-dimensional BJJ athlete.
You have to be solid at all aspects of the fighting game or the result looks like Kron’s loss. Kron and certain other members of the Gracie family must swallow their pride and evolve with the teams.
It’s not 1993 anymore and you can’t just win MMA fights with Jiu-Jitsu.
Will Kron Gracie Evolve?
From Kron’s post-fight Instagram post, it’s quite unlikely that we’ll see him evolve.
“They hate us because they ain’t us.”– Kron Gracie.

Bobby is martial artist for almost 20 years with a BJJ black belt under Professor Sergio Miranda. He is also a karate black and former combat sports athlete, who loves all things grappling.
