UFC lighweight Mauricio Ruffy scored a highlight reel knockout victory over King Green at UFC 313 on Saturday night that’ll be seen repeatedly for years.
“Very happy with that. We work very hard in the gym for thing that happen,” Ruffy told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum through a translator.
“Back in the locker room we were working on that kick as well. Where ever that came from I had other 30 strikes that I was hoping to put through.”
Ruffy (12-1) landed an impressive wheel kick knockout over Green that sent the crowd into a frenzy and his opponent to the canvas. The win, and how it went down, certainly puts Ruffy in sights of many lightweights in the division.
He’s not worried about it.
“There are a lot of secrets about Ruffy style that you don’t know. You have no idea, and I can’t wait to put them against a grappler, a wrestler. There are many more things that Ruffy can offer that you have not seen,” he said.
Ruffy is part of an up-and-coming group of 155ers that are quickly starting to replace the staples in the rankings. Ruffy understands his spot in that group.
“It’s awesome be a part of those talented in this new wave of people coming up,” he said.
“At Fighting Nerds we’ve got some really good talent coming up. There is a name of a guy that, I’ll tell you one thing, this man starts his career, you’re going to see him here. You’re going to interview him and you’re going to love what he has to offer. Google the man, Icaro Brito.”
