UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili recently shared a story about confronting a heckler at the Craig Jones Invitational.
Speaking on Jake Shields’ podcast, Dvalishvili described how he handled a fan who taunted him during the event:
I’m sitting there watching Jiu-Jitsu, enjoying the moment.Beautiful place, good people, everybody respectful.
Then one guy starts screaming: “Aljamain is your daddy”, and laughing at me.
Dvalishvili tried to brush off the taunts and ignore the fan, but the heckling didn’t stop:
I looked at him, like: “Shut up”.I get up and look at him, thinking he’ll stop. But he keeps going.
Dvalishvili then decided that enough is enough. He would confront the fan directly.And when he did so, the heckler quickly backed down.
Dvalishvili shared that his reaction is rooted in his cultural background, where respect is highly valued:
We are tough people, we’re fighters.If I say something to you, I mean it.
Some guys think they can run their mouth without consequences, but that’s not how it works where I’m from.
