Mikey Musumeci Says Heel Hooks Should Be Legal In The Gi
Mikey Musumeci has recently suggested that heel hooks should be allowed in gi competitions – for black belts.
For decades, the absence of heel hooks has been one of the defining differences between gi and no gi rulesets.Alongside the added friction and grips that come with the uniform, the restriction on reaping and twisting leglocks has helped preserve a unique pace and style in gi matches.
Many practitioners feel this separation is important to maintain. But Musumeci sees untapped potential.According to him, legalizing heel hooks would not only open up the game – it would lead to more submissions overall.
Here is what Musumeci had to say in a recent Instagram story:
People dislike what they fear.Of course heel hooks should be legal for black belts in the gi.
People jumping from gi to nogi would be much easier if the rules were the same in both…Also the submission percentage would most likely increase tremendously helping viewership for the gi…
Meaning you can make money competing in the gi…THEN I can compete in the gi again,
What do you think? Should heel hooks be allowed in the gi?Let us know!
