This past weekend, Karate Combat 48 streamed live from Nashville, Tennessee. It featured the 7th installment of Karate Combat’s Pit Submission Series, which featured former UFC champ Aljamain Sterling.
Check out the results of the three grappling matches from Karate Combat 48 below.
Patrick Gaudio Decisions Diego RamalhoÂ
Patrick Gaudio started off the night of fights against Diego Ramalho. Unfortunately, this match wasn’t very action packed. The most entertaining part of the match were the commentators joking around.
The two heavyweights fought for collar ties for the entire match, but neither got the fight to the ground. Gaudio earned a unanimous decision in a fight that the fans weren’t feeling.
Roosevelt Sousa Submits Alexandr Romanov
Thankfully, the second fight of the night was more action-packed and had a finish. 2023 No-Gi World Champion Roosevelt Sousa took on Moldovan grappler and MMA fighter Alexandr Romanov.
Sousa immediately sat down and began trying to coax Romanov into attempting a pass. Once Alexandr engaged, Roosevelt set up a beautiful sweep using the pit wall.
The fight went back to the feet for a short time before Sousa intelligently pulled guard against the 290 lb wrestler. Roosevelt set up an entry into the inside saddle leg position.
He was able to get heel exposure and locked in a nice heel hook to get the tap.Â
Aljamain Sterling Decisions Jay-Jay Wilson
In the main event of Karate Combat’s Pit Submission Series 7, former UFC champ Aljamain Sterling took on Jay-Jay Wilson. Aljamain is known for being one of UFC’s best grapplers, while Jay-Jay fights in Bellator-PFL with a 10-1 pro record.
Wilson started off the match quickly with a guard pull and began using the rubber guard. For 8 minutes, Sterling attempted to pass Wilson’s guard but was unsuccessful.
The match went to a 3-minute overtime, where Sterling was declared the winner by the judges.
