Sarah Galvao finished an intense run at the 2025 IBJJF World Championship with earning her black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
The moment was made even more special as the belt was tied around her waist by her parents, Angelica and Andre Galvao — two legends of the sport who have long set the standard she’s been working to reach.
The promotion came at the end of an emotional journey through the tournament. And sharing the moment with her ATOS teammates made it even more meaningful.
She stood beside four others receiving their black belts that day: Lillian Marchand, Maria Alencar, Leticia Teixeira, and Vinicius Inacio. The group promotion reinforced the strong bond of the ATOS competition team and highlighted the rising talent within their ranks.
Galvao had a standout showing in the brown belt lightweight division, where she took home gold with a dominant performance. She then entered the absolute division as the top seed, aiming for double gold.
However, her run was cut short in an unexpected turn when she was submitted by Aghata Fernandes via kneebar — one of the biggest upsets at the event.
But there was no time to dwell on the loss.Galvao’s promotion to black belt followed immediately afterward, launching her into a new chapter where she’ll begin testing herself against the elite of the elite.
