Mica Galvao Postpones MMA Debut: “Still History To Make In Jiu-Jitsu”

Mar 15, 2025BJJEE1 AdminArticles, BJJ News

Mica Galvao has decided to put his MMA ambitions on hold, opting instead to sign a new two-year contract with FloGrappling.

While he has been training with elite fighters and hinting at a move to mixed martial arts, he remains committed to achieving more in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu before making that transition.

He shared the reasoning behind the decision via social media:

I still have more history to make in Jiu-Jitsu.

From the very start of my career, every decision I made was based on the values I learned from my parents. And at this important moment, it couldn’t be any different.

After winning every possible title in Jiu-Jitsu, my heart was drawn to testing my Jiu-Jitsu in MMA. I had already decided to make my debut at Shooto Brasil, the event led by Master (Andre) Dede Pederneiras.

But in conversations with my parents, I realized that I still have a lot to contribute to Jiu-Jitsu before making that transition.

Galvao explained his reasoning further:

My father believes I am still young for MMA and that, with the platform I have today, I can do even mire for the growth of the sport. My mother also made it clear she’s not ready to see me taking punches just yet – and that definitely influenced my decision.

That’s why I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed a contract with FloGrappling for the next two years!I will continue competing in gi and no gi Jiu-Jitsu, defending my titles, and moving up to new weight classes in search of bigger challenges.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
