Ryan Hall’s reputation has been built on his unorthodox Jiu-Jitsu, particularly his dangerous guard and creative leglock entries.
But what many fans don’t know is that Hall once stepped off the mats of submission grappling and into a completely different arena – wrestling…And came out victorious.
Hall has always embraced risk and innovation.Whether in high-level submission grappling or inside the UFC octagon, he’s maintained a style centered around creating chaos on the ground – where he thrives.
His MMA record stands at 9-2, with notable wins over names like Gray Maynard and BJ Penn.Few would peg him as a traditional wrestler though – and yet, early in his MMA career, he tested himself under that exact ruleset.
Before he ever entered the UFC by way of The Ultimate Fighter, Hall already held an ADCC bronze medal and was recognized in the grappling world. But in a surprising turn, while holding a modest 2-1 MMA record, he represented Tristar Gym at the Concordia Invitational wrestling tournament!
Competing in the under 68kg division, Hall squared off against Ivan Toshev and put on a remarkably good performance.
He won that match 12-4 – more than just holding his own against a trained wrestler.Check out the match footage below:
